What is Jutulhogget?
Jutulhogget is an impressive canyon stretching 2.4 km long and up to 240 metres deep – considered the largest in Northern Europe. Formed during the Ice Age, it offers dramatic views and fascinating geological formations. According to legend, the gorge was created by a furious giant – a fun story to share with children.
Hiking and recommendations
The area offers well-marked trails and viewpoints. Families will enjoy the short walk to the lookout point near the car park, while the more adventurous can follow the path along the entire canyon edge. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a packed lunch and camera – the views are spectacular.
Practical tips
Jutulhogget is about a 30-minute drive from Nordstu Farm. There is a clearly marked parking area with information boards and picnic spots. The trip is suitable for both children and adults, but keep an eye on little ones as some areas are steep.
